G20 Summit 2023: A Diplomatic Triumph for India

The G20 Summit 2023, held in New Delhi, India, was a significant event that brought together leaders from the world's largest economies to discuss global issues. The theme of this year’s G20 Summit was ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam- One Earth, One Family, One Future’, which is a global roadmap for sustainable, inclusive, and human-centric development.

Day 1: A Diplomatic Breakthrough

India played a gracious host on the first day of the summit. The day began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcoming global leaders at the sprawling Bharat Mandapam. A replica of the Konark Wheel from the Sun temple in Odisha's Puri served as the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's welcome handshake with G20 leaders. 

In a big win for India's presidency, the G20 nations reached a consensus on the Ukraine conflict, paving way for the adoption of the New Delhi leaders' declaration. The consensus was reached after over 150 hours of intense negotiations with the member states.

Day 2: Handing Over the Presidency

The second day of the Summit saw world leaders paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Delhi’s Rajghat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the third and final session of the summit titled 'One Future' where he stressed the need to "look beyond the idea of a global village and make the vision of a global family a reality".

At the end of the two-day-long Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the gavel of the G20 presidency to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
